RFW Wildheart Championship Tournament Final

Maria Estrella vs. Phueng Ahunai

A new RFW Wildheart Champion was crowned in this final round of a season-long tournament. RFW Commissioner Aurora Starkey came to the ring with the title belt and expressed her excitement to present the next champion. Maria Estrella and Phueng Ahunai got a look at the title they were about to fight for before the bell rang and this match got underway!

The opening minutes of this match favored Estrella thanks to her strength advantage and a clear determination to add gold to her already prestigious RFW career. Ahunai, eager to claim her first RFW title, pushed through Estrella’s offense and went right to work on weakening her back to remove that strength advantage.

Ahunai deployed a methodical, sometimes vicious attack on Estrella who struggled to shake it off and came a comeback. Ahunai nearly picked up some pins but Estrella refused to stay down. A small comeback was disrupted when Estrella’s back gave out on her while trying to slam Ahunai.

Ahunai tried for a flipping neck breaker but Estrella somehow converted it into a Death Valley driver! Ahunai might have been down for the count here but Estrella was slow to capitalize. Estrella began a late match comeback that had her poised for victory but when she tried a running powerslam Ahunai slipped free and pulled off a victory roll pin. Estrella kicked out but a flipping neck breaker allowed Ahunai to keep Estrella down for a pin. Phueng Ahunai was the winner and became the new RFW Wildheart Champion!

Commissioner Starkey presented Ahunai with the title and raised her arm as recognition of her victory. Ahunai grinned as she paraded around on the mat holding the Wildheart over her head. Maria Estrella looked disappointed but approached Ahunai and offered a handshake out of respect to which Ahunai completely ignored her!

So begins the reign of Phueng Ahunai as the new RFW Wildheart Champion.

No Holds Barred Tag Team Match

Mikey Armstrong and “Badlands” Bill Stanton vs. Preston Montgomery and “Firehawk” Steve Curtis

The rift between Mikey Armstrong and Preston Montgomery got complicated when “Firehawk” Steve Curtis entered RFW and aligned with Montgomery. Armstrong got backup from ring veteran “Badlands” Bill Stanton and this heated feud couldn’t be settled with a typical tag team match. This one was no holds barred!

The match began surprisingly tame as Armstrong and Montgomery started this match somewhat technical with mat takedowns and submissions. The action got more intense when Armstrong sent Montgomery through the ropes and was confronted by Curtis when he tried to pick up Montgomery. Stanton stepped in and we had ourselves a brawl outside the ring!

The action returned to the ring and Curtis roughed up Armstrong. Stanton tried to come to his partner’s aid but was hit over the shoulders with a chair by Montgomery. Stanton took a lariat from Curtis and landed on the chair on the mat which left him out of commission as Montgomery and Curtis double teamed Armstrong.

Stanton made a big impact when he recovered and speared Montgomery into the turnbuckle before throwing him out of the ring. Curtis and Stanton brawled until Armstrong recovered making it two-on-one. Stanton speared Curtis and tried for a pin but Montgomery entered the ring with a full toolbox and dropped it on Stanton’s head. Armstrong fought both Montgomery and Curtis until Curtis hit him with a lariat. Before Curtis could cover, Armstrong dove on Armstrong to secure the three count.

Preston Montgomery and Steve Curtis were the winners of this one. Montgomery gloated over their win and stood in front of Curtis, seemingly hogging the spotlight.

RFW Tag Team Championship Match

The Cause vs. The Four Elements (c)

Rus Samson and Ridge have been on a rollercoaster since last year. They were betrayed by their Lost Cause teammates but stayed together and found their way to this title match against Marcus and Tommy V of The Four Elements. Killer Malone stood ringside in support of his Four Elements partners.

The match favored The Cause early on and they showed great chemistry despite not being a team for nearly as long as the Elements. Marcus thumbed the eye of Ridge to get some breathing room and tagged in Tommy V which is when this match started to shift in favor of the Elements. Ridge was in a tough spot until a brief moment of weakness in The Elements’ offense allowed him to tag in Samson who cleared house.

The Cause looked poised to win this match when Samson bowled over Tommy V and tossed him in the air with a gorilla press. As Samson covered, Malone reached into the ring and pulled Samson off of Tommy! The referee began to deal with Malone but Ridge took care of him instead by flying over the top rope and knocking down Malone.

Back in the ring, The Cause continued looking strong which led to their former partner, Cool Spencer to run out to the ring to try and interfere. Samson leveled Spencer before he could do anything but enough distractions occurred that Tommy V and Marcus were able to get the better of Ridge. Tommy covered Ridge while Marcus knocked Samson off the ring apron with a drop kick. A three count was all she wrote giving The Four Elements a successful title defense.

RFW Grand Championship Match

Ruslan Panov vs. The Iconoclast (c)

The Iconoclast has proven himself as one of the most dominant champions in recent history and even proclaimed that he was impossible to defeat. Ruslan Panov came to Tampa looking to do the impossible and dethrone The Iconoclast, completing his mission of being RFW Grand Champion.

This collision between HAW alums started with a tie-up and in a battle strength it was The Iconoclast who won out. The champion kept Panov under control with a slow, methodical assault that saw Panov thrown to the mat, twisted with submissions, and battered with heavy forearm shots. Panov fought to break through the attack but struggled as The Iconoclast continued to stop his every effort.

Panov finally found an opportunity when he rolled away to avoid The Iconoclast’s rolling senton in the corner. Panov dug deep to recover and caught The Iconoclast with a curb stomp. This wasn’t enough to put away the champion but it did begin Panov’s comeback, and come back he did! The challenger fired fists at The Iconoclast and took him to the outside with a clothesline over the top rope.

The action heated up outside the ring as The Iconoclast was thrown through the steel steps, into the barricade, and clotheslined which landed him hard on the floor. The champion made a mistake of trying to get to his feet using the steel steps which set him up in position for a curb stomp on the steps. The Iconoclast rolled off the steps in a heap leaving a pool of blood on the steel. Panov was able to get The Iconoclast back into the ring with great effort but it was long enough for the champion to recover and kick out of a pin.

Panov was looking strong here but The Iconoclast grabbed him by the throat and used a chokeslam power bomb. This wasn’t enough to keep Panov down, however, and this match continued with each man giving it their all to put away their opponent. A trading of fists broke out in the middle of the ring and this was where the champion was outmatched. Panov began to pull ahead of this fist fight and slugged The Iconoclast multiple times, causing the champion to stagger. Panov continued to throw fists while The Iconoclast struggled to stay on his feet. It was an uppercut that sent The Iconoclast down to his knees. A curb stomp dropped The Iconoclast, Panov covered for a pin, and secured his place in history as the new RFW Grand Champion.

Ruslan Panov took a long, deep look at the RFW Grand Championship belt as it was handed him by the referee. He grinned and proudly held the belt over his head. Panov celebrated his win in the ring and was about to step through the ropes when a blooded Iconoclast placed a strong hand on his shoulder. The defeated former champion stared at Panov for a long moment before extending his hand in a show of respect.

It is Ruslan Panov’s time now and we will see what is next for the new champion this summer at the Rapid Fire Festival!

RFW World Championship Triple Threat Match

Kami King vs. Shannon Worth vs. Kassidy Fortune (c)

Our main event was the big Triple Threat Match for the RFW World Championship. Kami King returned to RFW to achieve her goal of capturing the title but things got complicated when Shannon Worth wedged her way into the match. Kassidy Fortune walked into this match defending the title against not one but two serious threats!

Fortune and King formed an early alliance against Worth and when she was down we got to see some of the one-on-one competition between Fortune and King we were originally supposed to get. King showed a sharper edge in her offense that no doubt came from her time working in the short-lived Grunge Club Pro Wrestling last year. Fortune was initially caught off guard but showed why she has carried the world title as long as she has and was able to bring her own, more measured offense against King.

Worth recovered and took out King with a DDT. It was now Worth’s turn to battle the champion. Fortune was competing as strong as I have ever seen her and when she pulled off a surprise cutter on Worth an early victory looked imminent. It was not to be, however, and King recovered in time to break up a pin and keep this match going.

All three women kicked this match into a higher gear with each showing off their best. Fortune found herself a target against both of her opponents, King had breakout moments where she dominated the ring, and Worth found success with a keen eye for opportunities. King got in a super kick on Worth but her pin was thwarted by Fortune which caused the two to begin brawling.

Worth waved toward the arena entrance and Paisley Alden rushed toward the ring. King lined up Fortune for a super kick but was pulled out of the ring by the ankle by Alden. Alden paid for her interference by taking a super kick on the outside of the ring but it gave Worth time to knock out Fortune with a spinning elbow. King broke up the pin but the momentum shift began to favor Worth thanks to Alden’s involvement.

Worth continued to build toward victory as Alden cheered her on from ringside. Fortune broke Worth’s momentum with another surprise cutter but could not capitalize with a pin. It was now King’s time to shine and the challenger hit Worth with a super kick and then focused on the champion. Fortune held her own for a moment but King pushed through and hit the champion with a lightning quick super kick. The champion was down but Worth got to her feet causing King to direct her focus on her. King threw a super kick at Worth but Alden ran in front of Worth, taking the blow. Worth hit King with a spinning elbow, covered for the pin and claimed victory, winning her second RFW World Championship.

Shannon Worth was slow to get to her feet but stood up and collected the RFW World Championship from the referee, holding it high and smugly grinning while Paisley Alden leaped into the air and cheered behind her. The rest of The Four Elements along with Cool Spencer joined Worth in the ring to celebrate. Outside the ring, Kassidy Fortune looked up from the floor, seething over what had just transpired. Kami King sat on the floor in the aisle, tears rolling down her cheeks, and she watched the ring in total frustration.

Spring Shockwave is in the record books and changes the RFW landscape as we head toward this summer. We’ll be back on the 4th of July for week 1 of our annual Rapid Fire Festival in Pensacola, FL!
