Paisley Alden vs. Phueng Ahunai
We’ve seen a problems brewing between Lost Cause’s Paisley Alden and Phueng Ahunai the past couple of weeks which brought us to our opening match.
Alden was solo here as the other members of Lost Cause prepared for their title match later in the night. Ahunai had the early lead here but Alden came firing back. I gotta say, the crowd was really behind Alden and I don’t know if it was preference over Ahunai or that she’s been such a lovable part of our roster over the years. Despite the love, it was Ahunai who overtook Alden and pinned her following a neck breaker.
This win puts a nice cap on Ahunai’s first season in RFW. No shame for Paisley Alden, though, it was a tough fight.
RFW Wildheart Championship Match
Alexandra Morgan w/Claudia Winter vs. Meghan DeWitt (c)
The Wildheart was on the line when Meghan DeWitt stepped into the ring with a tough challenger in Alexandra Morgan. Morgan has always been full of potential and a true powerhouse but now that she is aligned with Claudia Winter that potential is starting to really show.
DeWitt looked ready from the bell and hit Morgan with a series of kicks and a few takedowns. DeWitt found Morgan reeling and went for a flying knee to close this one out early only to find Morgan was more alert than she realized. Morgan scooped DeWitt mid-flying knee, crushed her to the mat with a spinning side slam and pinned the champion to win the RFW Wildheart Championship in just over two minutes!
Listen, Alexandra Morgan is no underdog but you can’t view this as anything other than an upset victory. Meghan DeWitt came into this prepared and it took just one moment for Morgan to turn it all around. Morgan is your new Wildheart Champion and Claudia Winter looked proud as her reputation of building champions continues.
Tornado Tag Team Steel Cage Match
Kenneth Cobb and Hector Diaz vs. Lords of Chaos
It’s clear we could never keep the four of these in the ring. They’ve brawled all over the RFW Arena. Commissioner Aurora Starkey did her best to contain the combat inside a steel cage. Spoiler alert, the steel cage was successful at keeping these four in the ring but this match was a tornado alright.
Lords of Chaos worked well here early on. They wasted no time neutralizing Kenneth Cobb, cutting him open only minutes into the match with a launch into the cage wall. With Cobb down the attention turned to Hector Diaz. The Mexican star held his own, briefly, but a nasty clothesline from Rex Anarchy rattled him and from there Lords of Chaos attacked like jackals.
Ruslan Panov ran off the ropes in preparation for a stomp but this is when Cobb, uh, woke up? I don’t think the guy ever sleeps but he grabbed Panov and locked him in a sleeper hold. Anarchy came to his partner’s aid but Cobb started throwing fists. Diaz recovered leading to a massive brawl between both teams.
Anarchy got his head ground against the cage by Diaz and boy did that let the blood flow! Panov returned the favor by exposing a turnbuckle and stun gunning Diaz onto it. Diaz was busted open, Cobb was busted open, Anarchy was busted open, and Panov was squeaky clean. Until Cobb threw Panov over the ropes and then ran at him full force through the ropes. Panov’s temple cut on the cage and we had a full on bloodbath with all competitors losing blood at the fight continued.
This match was already brutal but did anyone have using a ring rope as a weapon? Anarchy somehow detached the top rope and began whipping Cobb with it! Diaz stopped Anarchy before using a hurricanrana to send Anarchy into a ring post. Anarchy was out cold. Diaz took a stomp from Panov. Panov was about to go for the pin but was grabbed by Cobb who choked Panov with the ring rope! Panov struggled but ultimately passed out. The referee, probably relieved to have the opportunity to escape this cage, called the match, awarding Cobb and Diaz the win.
This one will go down as one of the nastiest, most violent matches in RFW history! Kenneth Cobb and Hector Diaz were the winners here. The two shook hands, blooded and bruised, and left the cage. Lords of Chaos regrouped but there was some noted tension. You have to wonder if these two rivals turned partners are really on the same page.
Be Safe and Good Luck
Our ring crew was busy removing the steel cage and cleaning up all the blood so we went backstage where Lucia Mendez was stretching before her match against Yurei. Andre Jordan approached, holding his hands out in a disarming gesture, approached his ex-girlfriend to tell her that he knows she will be great but to be careful against Yurei. Mendez thanked Jordan and wished him luck.
“Good luck tonight against The Iconoclast. He has taken advantage of us and got into your head. You can’t let him win that way. Despite what we’ve been though, I believe in you, Andre. I know you can beat him. You will be a defending Grand Champion.” -Lucia Mendez
With that, Mendez was off to the ring and our RFW Grand Champion watched her go.
Lucia Mendez vs. Yurei
When Lucia Mendez said she wanted to face new challenges, do you think she expected Yurei? Probably not. To Mendez’s credit, she didn’t back down and even asked for this match.
Yurei was the aggressor in the early minutes of this match until Mendez dodged a spear and used a German suplex as the beginning of a comeback rally. Mendez tried to lock Yurei in a triangle hold but the Japanese star was able to escape. Mendez kept fighting but Yurei exploded with a spear out of the blue. It wasn’t enough to keep Mendez down but turned the tide of this match.
Mendez fought on but Yurei tackled her with another spear before locking in an anaconda choke. Yurei wrapped her body around Mendez to prevent her from escaping. I give Mendez credit for hanging on as long as she could but knowing escape was hopeless she tapped out.
The bell rang with Yurei being the winner but she refused to release the chokehold. The referee tried to get her to release the hold, the bell was ringing, but Yurei held on tight until she was sure Lucia Mendez was out cold. Yurei left the ring, quite proud of herself I might add, as medical staff checked on Mendez. Andre Jordan ran down to ringside to check on Mendez who was able to make it backstage with assistance. I am happy to report that Mendez is going to be ok but this clearly rattled Jordan and concern for his ex-girlfriend is the last thing he needed on his mind minutes before defending the Grand Championship.
RFW Tag Team Championship Match
Lost Cause vs. The Navigators (c)
A little over a year ago, we saw this match. Last time out, it was The Navigators capturing the RFW Tag Team Championship from Lost Cause. This time, the roles were reversed and it was Lost Cause looking to stop the longest tag team title run in RFW history.
And to Lost Cause’s credit, they made it known they wanted to win early in this match. Rus Samson tossed Aidan North like a rag doll into Pete Arrow just minutes into the match, sending both to the floor. Cool Spencer ran around a drop kicked the recovering North before rolling him back in the ring. Paisley Alden hyped up the crowd as her Lost Cause partners were really cooking here.
Arrow turned things around for The Navigators midway through the match and slowed the pace a bit, working down Samson with quick tags between the champions. North nearly pinned the big man after a splash off the top rope but Samson body pressed him off. Samson tagged in a hot and ready Spencer who helped make a huge comeback for Lost Cause.
Late in the match, Samson gorilla pressed North and Spencer hit a splash off the top rope. I really thought it was over here but Arrow slid across the mat and shoulder blocked Spencer. We got some nice back and forth action here at the end but running power bomb from Arrow on Spencer while North clotheslines Samson to the outside was enough for the champs to pin Spencer and successful defend the RFW Tag Team Championship yet again.
Credit to The Navigators for a challenging win. Paisley Alden consoled Cool Spencer who was trying to get to his feet. Rus Samson stepped in to help him but was stopped when Pete Arrow grabbed his arm. Aidan North held out a hand to Cool Spencer, pulling him to his feet. There was a brief discussion between both teams before the champions offered handshakes to Lost Cause. This was a surprising show of respect from a team who showed anything but respect to Lost Cause the last time they met in this ring. I think Lost Cause showed them something special tonight.
The Elements Crash The Party
We were supposed to get our World Championship match next but The Elements had other plans. Marcus and Tommy V. came to the ring with Shannon Worth. The trio wasted no time clearing the referee from the ring, grabbing microphones, and explaining their plans here in RFW.
“Once upon a time, in a place called NRWL, Tommy and I were part of a very special, very dominant group. The Four Elements. The three of us here in this ring are united. But you know, The Three Elements doesn’t sound right. So this summer, at the Rapid Fire Festival, we will find a fourth member. The Four Elements will rise again.” -Marcus
This is really happening? The Four Elements in RFW? Who is the fourth member? So many questions! Apparently we will all learn this summer.
RFW World Championship Match
Annika vs. Kassidy Fortune (c)
Kassidy Fortune wanted to be a fighting champion and our commissioner gave her a fighter for a challenger in Annika. The judo-trained wrestler has proven herself to be a dangerous threat over the years but Fortune’s strategy has been to suggest that Annika is insecure. Did it work?
Not from the start, it didn’t! We got a brief feeling out exchange before Annika tossed Fortune and began a methodical attack on the champion with takedown, holds, and strikes. Fortune was rocked and retreated to the outside. Annika waited instead of following which was smart because something tells me Fortune wanted the better of the challenger out of the ring.
The little breather was what Fortune needed because while Annika was still in control, the champion’s mind was clearer and she found a way through Annika’s offenses and started making a comeback. Annika would not stay down despite the champion’s best efforts. Fortune went for a cutter to finish this thing but Annika caught her arm and flipped Fortune to the mat into an arm breaker! Fortune struggled to escape and though she finally did the damage to her arm was noticeable as this match pushed on.
Annika kept on the attack but Fortune showed her the same determination to win and refused to be defeated. This match went back and forth in the closing moments but despite Annika’s smart strategy it was Fortune who managed to use a cutter to down the challenger and pin her for the victory.
Kassidy Fortune continues on as our RFW World Champion. As for Annika, Fortune confronted her after the match and offered a handshake. Annika accepted and then left the ring to the champion.
RFW Grand Championship Match
The Iconoclast w/Dezzy Nightshade vs. Andre Jordan
Main event time. Andre Jordan should have had a triumphant spring season heading into this match. The RFW Grand Champion was riding high after last year’s Final Round and took a sudden downturn. Travis Samuels isn’t on the roster anymore but he’d have a hit on his hands if he wrote a song about this saga.
Jordan is without his girlfriend Lucia Mendez, hounded by The Iconoclast and Dezzy Nightshade, and questions about his mindset going into this match were abound before Mendez was left laying earlier in this show.
Jordan looked distracted walking into this thing and The Iconoclast took full advantage early on. Jordan was tossed around, slugged with forearms, and hit with a particularly brutal big boot. The champion kept getting up, however, and surprised The Iconoclast with a belly-to-belly suplex to break the momentum. Jordan could not cover for a pin quickly enough and The Iconoclast was not on his heels long before flattening the champ with a body splash.
Jordan took the chokeslam powerbomb which should have ended this but he kicked out. The Iconoclast slowly, methodically, beat down Jordan while Nightshade laughed on the outside. The Iconoclast locked Jordan in a camel clutch and Nightshade taunted him from ringside. Jordan seemed to get fueled by Nightshade’s poor sportsmanship and broke free of the hold. The champ began firing back with the aggression and determination we were all hoping to see from him. Another belly-to-belly suplex brought the challenger down but The Iconoclast kicked out just before the three count.
Jordan rallied the fans’ support and kept on the offense. Nightshade began to look worried, climbing on the apron and yelling to Jordan that Lucia Mendez is long gone and he’s never getting her back. Jordan tried to ignore this but it clearly broke his attention. And that’s where this turned bad. With his mind clouded, Jordan got caught by The Iconoclast with a big boot to the corner, a rolling cannonball, and finally, a chokeslam powerbomb. 1 2 3 and we’ve got a new champ.
The Iconoclast stood victorious and held the RFW Grand Championship belt over his head marking the beginning of his second reign with the title. Dezzy Nightshade patted the champion on the back. Andre Jordan’s reign ended here and the now former champion looked devastated as he sat on the arena floor watching The Iconoclast stare back at him with cold confidence.
Will this summer’s Rapid Fire Festival feel a little darker? It may be a little more overcast on Miami Beach with The Iconoclast ruling the roost. Regardless of the conditions, I’ll be there for the Rapid Fire Festival. I hope you will, too! We’ll be back to kick off the festival August 9th! See you then, Rapid Fire Fanatics!
