Welcome back, you Rapid Fire Fanatics! Shawn Roberts, the voice of RFW here, and I am your guide to all things RFW.
Last week was a wild kick off to our fall season and something tells me this week is going to kick things up another notch. That’s the RFW way, isn’t it?
Rex Anarchy vs. Mikey Armstrong
Our evening in Indianapolis began with Rex Anarchy taking on Mikey Armstrong in singles action. These guys are veterans at this point, both seeing their careers taking off in 2011 at NRWL, and their experience showed. This match was a hot opener with a lot of action and near falls for both men.
Armstrong can be a goof sometimes but I’d never take anything away from his ring skills. He nearly got the better of the former champion with a pump handle slam but Anarchy managed to shift his weight and avoid the move. Armstrong tried to keep the momentum going but Anarchy made a big comeback and pinned him following a fisherman buster.
Rex Anarchy had little time to celebrate his victory because Ruslan Panov came to ringside playing the role of party crashed. Panov overheard Anarchy admitting he felt directionless and promised to give him a purpose again. Cryptic. Panov didn’t elaborate further, leaving Anarchy as confused as the rest of us.
Preston Montgomery Needs a Partner... Or Else
Claudia Winter is never confused. The Diamond Peak founder and leader knows what she wants from her team and what she’s been getting from Preston Montgomery, well, isn’t what she wants. Winter pulled Montgomery aside backstage and gave him an ultimatum.
“I brought you back into The Diamond Peak and expected great things. This is a stable for champions but I don’t see any gold on you. Preston, you lost your chance at the RFW Grand Championship and I can’t wait for you to get another opportunity. You need to find a partner and win the Tag Team Championship again. Or else. Oh. And Preston? Do be quick about it because you have a tag match against The Door next week.” -Claudia Winter
The heat is on Preston Montgomery. Poor kid. I’m sure he can find someone. Right? Maybe?
A Missed Opportunity Must Be Answered For
We were supposed to go back to the ring for Tornado and Ridge taking on The Door but that had to wait a few minutes because Andre Jordan stormed the ring with Lucia Mendez beside him. Jordan was furious that The Iconoclast cost him the RFW Grand Championship last week and demanded The Iconoclast come to the ring to answer for his actions.
I am happy to say the show did not grind to a stop due to Jordan’s angry takeover. The Iconoclast and Dezzy Nightshade came to the ring on command! As for that explanation Jordan wanted, you be the judge of that.
“Mr. Jordan, your anger is understandable but this is not personal. You were in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is the RFW Grand Championship that I want back. This does not concern you.” -The Iconoclast
Yeah, Jordan didn’t like that.
“You don’t dismiss me like that. You got into my business! That was my shot. It had nothing to do with you. But now it does. This is personal now. I am not some nobody that you can brush aside. You and me got a problem now.” -Andre Jordan
Mendez and Nightshade were glaring at each other while this was going on and when Nightshade smirked at Mendez, the feisty Latina shoved her. Nightshade spit purple mist in Mendez’s face in response causing Jordan to come to her aid. Bad move. The Iconoclast took advantage of the distracted Jordan and pummeled him in the ring.
The Iconoclast and Dezzy Nightshade calmly left the ring while Jordan and Mendez were helped by RFW referees.
Tornado and Ridge vs. The Door
I told you we had a tag team match. You didn’t forget, did you? Of course not. Not when you’ve got Tornado and Ridge in action against The Door. And, uh, The Door did not come alone. Malcom and Richter confidently marched to the ring with big smiles and young women attached to each of their arms. The Door continues to lighten up around here. It’s kinda weird, but, I like it.
The Door had fun on their way to the ring but it was all business once that bell rang. Tornado and Ridge put up a good fight and held their own throughout the match while those ladies cheered on The Door on the outside. The support of these young women invigorated Malcom and he changed the flow of the match by catching Ridge in midair and power slamming him.
The Door was determined in their domination as the match continued. Tornado made a strong offense burst late in the match but Richter turned things around once again and secured a victory.
The Door celebrated with the women they brought to the ring. Meanwhile, the RFW Tag Team Champions, The Navigators, were watching this all happen on a monitor backstage. Aidan North looked unimpressed and Pete Arrow called The Door a couple of morons.
Lee Lee Hunt Meets Tiger Johnson
The show stayed backstage a bit longer to watch what I think is the beginning of a beautiful partnership. No, I kid. This looks like anything but.
Lee Lee Hunt, the representative from Jessie Vega’s record label, was escorted into RFW Commissioner Tiger Johnson’s office by Delilah. Johnson graciously welcomed Hunt to RFW and that’s the end of the pleasantries. Hunt wasted no time reading Johnson the riot act.
“My job is to fix the problems with the treatment of Jessie Vega. This woman helped get RFW off the ground nearly a decade ago. She transitioned into a successful, lucrative music career. Despite all she has done, your company showed a disturbing lack of respect in how you handled her summer concert at the Rapid Fire Festival. This arrangement is troubling. You need to step up and give Jessie better placement on your shows. I also believe it would be in everyone’s best interests if she had a title reign.” -Lee Lee Hunt
What? The gall of this woman! Johnson shot this down real quick.
“You need to understand your position here. You can advocate for Jessie but you have no say over my decisions. Further, Jessie is welcome to compete for any championship she wants, if, she earns those opportunities. I am not handing her a title.” -Tiger Johnson
Hunt tried to further the discussion with Johnson but he dismissed her from his office. As he should have!
Shannon Worth vs. Alexandra Morgan
Shannon Worth has had a great run in RFW. One year ago, she was enjoying the longest title reign in the history of the promotion. She carried the RFW Wildheart Championship this past summer. Worth isn’t carrying any gold right now and wants to get back in the title picture.
One problem. Alexandra Morgan. Morgan is on her own quest for glory. You know what that means. These ladies were on a collision course and that collision happened on this very show.
Worth showed why she is a multiple champion and overcame the more powerful Morgan early in the match. Morgan did burst through Worth’s offense with a barrage of power moves and looked every bit the champion she believes herself to be. Neither woman were giving up but it looked over for Morgan when she hit a desperate spinning elbow. Worth was too slow to go for the pin, allowing Morgan just enough time to kick out.
This one got hot near the end with both women using all their skills to best one another. Worth fought hard but it was Morgan who used two spinning side slams in succession before pinning her for the win. Alexandra Morgan won the match, grabbed a microphone, and laid out a challenge.
“What more do I have to do? Meghan DeWitt. You are carrying something I want. I’m challenging you for the RFW Wildheart Championship. Come out here and accept my challenge!” -Alexandra Morgan
Ready for the heartbreak? Ok, here it comes. Meghan DeWitt did not come to the ring to respond. MoW Commissioner Tiger Johnson’s assistant, Delilah, stepped out to the aisle and made an announcement.
“Alexandra, I believe you misunderstood. This match was not a number one contender’s match. This was just for you and Shannon to settle your differences. Commissioner Johnson already granted someone’s request to challenge for Meghan DeWitt’s RFW Wildheart Championship. Meghan’s opponent at our upcoming Turmoil in Toronto show will be... Paisley Alden!” -Delilah
Crazy, right? But it’s true! Paisley Alden came out and stood next to Delilah looking thrilled about her opportunity. Morgan contested this but Delilah said Alden “asked nicely.” Morgan was furious, which, I can’t blame her, but Alden did ask nicely.
Underprepared or Underestimated
RFW World Champion Cate Stiles came to the ring to respond to the challenge issued by Kassidy Fortune last week. Stiles said that Fortune was looking for a fight but too hasty and full of herself. Despite this, Stiles welcomed the challenger.
Yep. Fortune came to the ring but the champ wasn’t done assessing her challenger.
“I have been watching you. I’ll admit. You are accomplished and deserving of the praise people have given you. There is a big difference between where you are at and where I am at. You are great at the level you are on. But me? I’m great at a higher level you haven’t reached yet. I’ve been here for nearly a decade. I’ve climbed a lot higher.” -Cate Stiles
Stiles was every bit the confident champion you would expect her to be. I gotta hand it to Fortune, though. She wasn’t bothered by Stiles at all.
“Right now, you are at a higher level. You are at the very highest level there is. But I’m ready to step up there. There is only room for one woman and I think your fall is going to hurt terribly because you don’t expect it.” -Kassidy Fortune
Stiles was amused by Fortune’s words and stood proud with the title raised above her head. Fortune looked ready for the challenge. I don’t know about you but I am very excited to watch these two collide.
RFW Grand Championship Open Challenge
We went from the World Champion to the Grand Champion and that means Mark Blood was out there to put the title on the line in an open challenge. Blood acknowledged the high caliber challengers he has faced so far and wanted to know who his next challenge would be.
Lost Cause answered the call, specifically Cool Spencer! Spencer came to the ring with Paisley Alden and Rus Samson who gave him some encouragement before leaving ringside. Blood and Spencer shook hands and we had ourselves a hot main event.
RFW Grand Championship Match
Cool Spencer vs. Mark Blood (c)
You could be forgiven for thinking Cool Spencer is out of his league here due to his behavior in RFW but you’d be wrong. Spencer is a damn good wrestler and his skills were on display here. Blood was in control early in the match but Spencer turned things around quickly.
Blood found himself outside the ring after a drop kick sent him through the ropes and Spencer wasted no time diving out of the ring on top of the champion. Spencer was focused and fought with heart as he attempted to defeat the RFW Grand Champion. Blood kicked out of several pin attempts but Spencer was persistent.
Blood escaped from a hanging suplex and responded with one of his own. This began a comeback for the champion but just as Blood refused to be pinned, so did Spencer. The champion was surprised by Spencer’s determination. The kid even dragged himself to the ropes to break a Boston Crab by Blood.
Blood and Spencer pushed back on each other until Blood found an opening and used a tombstone piledriver to subdue Spencer and pin him for the win.
Mark Blood had his arm raised in victory before approaching a recovering Cool Spencer and helped him to his feet. Blood graciously patted Spencer on the back and raised the challenger’s hand in a show of respect.
That’s going to do it for us this week. Check back in next week when we come to make some noise in Baltimore!
