State of Rapid Fire Wrestling 2024
Hello fans! This is C.W. Sunderland, President of Rapid Fire Wrestling, and this is my annual report on the state of RFW today and where we are headed for the next year. This year is a big one for us so I will get right to it.
MoW to RFW
We are changing the name of this promotion from Masters of Wrestling to Rapid Fire Wrestling. It is a big change that deserves an explanation.
When Masters of Wrestling was relaunched in 2019, it took the place of Rapid Fire Wrestling. MoW was intended to invoke the spirit of the original MoW from the 1990s but it quickly evolved to resemble RFW.
We paid tribute to RFW through a reunion show and a second weekly show called MoW Rapid Fire. Last year, we condensed our shows back to one and our flagship show became MoW Rapid Fire Wrestling. We couldn’t shake the feeling that MoW was not the appropriate name for our promotion today and decided it was time to rebrand.
The MoW name is now retired and we will be known as Rapid Fire Wrestling. We are still the same promotion that began in 1993. The history is all here. Additionally, we have merged the original RFW into our history and have published all thirty shows from the original RFW run here on the site as “RFW Classic.”
We may be Rapid Fire Wrestling now but Masters of Wrestling will always be part of us and foundational to our history.
Renamed Titles
We can’t change our name to RFW and not change the branding on our championship titles. We are not simply changing the promotion name on the titles, however. We are taking this opportunity to make some important changes to the championship names.
The women’s division MoW Championship, currently held by Cate Stiles, is now the RFW World Championship.
The men’s division MoW Championship, currently held by Snarl, is now the RFW Grand Championship.
The MoW Wildheart Championship, currently held by Kassidy Fortune, is now the RFW Wildheart Championship.
The MoW Team Championship, currently held by Lost Cause, is now the RFW Tag Team Championship.
We believe these new title names will help keep them distinct from each other and make them more prestigious.
The 2024 Schedule
We have no big changes to our schedule this year. We will run a spring, summer, and fall season. The one small change we have made is a call back to an event from RFW Classic. Our summer season will be a five week “Rapid Fire Festival” and, like last summer, it will be held outdoors on the beach. This year the action will happen at Wildwood, NJ.
Before we get to the Rapid Fire Festival, we will start with a strong spring season that includes the 100th episode of our flagship show and a supershow finale, Mayday in Memphis. The spring season begins March 9th.
Departures
We see changes in our roster every year and 2024 is no different. RFW’s roster is slimming down and several wrestlers have entered free agency to search for new opportunities elsewhere. We thank Cole Arcane, Aurora Starkey, Carolina Deene, Paul Priest, Mysterie, Pierre Laurent, Chez Everett, Oleg Azarov, Matt Griffin, and Sheena for their contributions here, look forward to seeing what they can accomplish next, and hope to see them return to us someday.
Additions
We will see some new and returning faces joining RFW this year.
Mark Blood is returning to RFW after a near three year absence. Blood is a former two-time RFW Grand Champion and part of the legendary Blood family. He is returning following a successful run in Japan working for HPW.
As seen on our Merry Mayhem II show in late December, Yurei is returning after taking time away. Yurei is a formidable fighter who blends power and a skilled striking game.
Travis Samuels comes to us following his time in HAW. Samuels splits his time as a pro wrestler and a country music singer.
Former RFW Tag Team Champions The Navigators are coming back to RFW this year as they look to add to their storied legacy as a prizefighting tag team following a successful run in HAW.
Closing Thoughts
Merging Rapid Fire Wrestling and Masters of Wrestling and renaming the promotion Rapid Fire Wrestling is a big change but it is the start of great things to come. We are excited for our new and returning talents and the great action we will be bringing your way in 2024. Thank you for being a fan and we will see you in March for the kickoff of our best year yet!
